Income tax return filing in Sasaram: what is involved
Choosing the form is the first step — ITR-1 for simple salary and interest income, ITR-2 for capital gains or multiple properties, ITR-4 for presumptive business or professional income, ITR-3 for regular books — followed by reconciling Form 16, the tax statement and the Annual Information Statement. Under the new regime, income up to ₹12 lakh carries no tax after rebate, but the return is still required above the basic exemption.
Returns for a financial year are due by 31 July for salaried and other non-business taxpayers, 31 August for business and professional returns without audit, and 31 October where a tax audit applies. From 1 April 2026 the Income-tax Act, 2025 applies and the year is called the “tax year”. Bihar levies professional tax on salaries; the amount your employer deducts is allowed as a deduction under the old regime. For house rent allowance under the old regime, Sasaram falls in the 40%-of-salary category; the 50% limit applies only to eight notified metro cities.
What the service includes, wherever you are in India, is set out on our Income Tax Filing service page.

Rice millers are Rohtas’s characteristic business taxpayers: turnover in crores, bank borrowings against stock, and custom-milling contracts with the state procurement agency alongside private trade. Most need books and a tax audit. Grain traders, the staff of the district’s government offices, railways and the cement works, and paddy farmers with large procurement receipts complete the picture.

Points for each kind of taxpayer
Firms & Companies. A firm or company also collects tax for others. It deducts TDS on salaries, contractors, rent and professional fees — and, for larger buyers, on purchases of goods — deposits it by the 7th of the following month and files a statement every quarter. Its own advance tax is due in four instalments, in June, September, December and March. An expense on which TDS was skipped is partly disallowed, and a late TDS statement costs ₹200 for every day of delay.
Shop Owners & Traders. Under the presumptive scheme the whole year’s advance tax falls due in a single instalment by 15 March — a date many shopkeepers miss, and pay interest for. The return is also the document a bank reads when the shop asks for a loan or a higher cash-credit limit, so the income declared has to support the borrowing sought. Banks report cash deposits of ₹10 lakh or more in a year in a savings account, and ₹50 lakh in a current account, to the department.
Government & Bank Staff. For government employees the figures that need checking are rarely the basic pay. They are the employer’s NPS contribution, which is deductible under both regimes up to 14% of salary; allowances that are exempt only within limits; and retirement benefits — gratuity and leave encashment are fully exempt for government staff, while commuted pension and GPF follow their own rules. Under the new regime the standard deduction is ₹75,000.
Why the details in a return matter
- Thirty per cent of an expense is disallowed if tax was not deducted on it — far more than the TDS itself.
- A shop that declares the bare minimum every year finds its own returns are the reason the bank refuses a larger loan.
- A government employee who misses the employer-NPS deduction pays tax on money that never reached his hands.
- Banks and visa offices usually ask for the returns of the last two or three years, filed on time.
- A return filed after the due date carries a late fee and interest, and some losses can no longer be carried forward.
How we prepare your return
- Documents in. You send Form 16 or income details, bank statements and investment proofs — photos over WhatsApp are fine.
- Cross-check. We download your AIS and tax statement and match every entry with your papers, so nothing is missed or counted twice.
- Computation for approval. You see the tax under both regimes, the refund or tax payable, and confirm before filing.
- Filing and e-verification. The return is filed, e-verified with Aadhaar OTP and the acknowledgement sent to you; we watch the refund status afterwards.

Milling charges are business receipts, taxed after expenses, and the TDS shown in your tax statement is claimed as credit in the return. The paddy and rice belong to the government and are not your turnover; only the charges and any by-product sales are.
In four instalments: 15% of the year’s tax by 15 June, 45% by 15 September, 75% by 15 December and the whole by 15 March. A shortfall carries interest at 1% a month, worked out separately for each instalment.
