Bandra is a small block in the south-east of Muzaffarpur district along the Burhi Gandak, towards the Samastipur border; its villages live mainly by farming.

Income tax return filing in Bandra: what is involved
A return has three parts that must agree: the income you declare, the tax already paid on it through TDS or advance tax, and the bank account that will receive any refund. For most people in Bandra the form is ITR-1 or ITR-4. The department checks the return against its own records — the Annual Information Statement — so interest, contract payments and large deposits it already knows about should all appear.
Key dates: 31 July for individuals without business income, 31 August for business and professional returns not requiring audit, 31 October for audited cases, and 31 December for a belated return. Income earned from 1 April 2026 falls under the new Income-tax Act, 2025, which calls the year the “tax year”. Bihar levies professional tax on salaries; the amount your employer deducts is allowed as a deduction under the old regime.

Earning a living in Bandra — and what your return should show
In a small farming block, income tax returns are occasional rather than routine. They are filed by government staff with Form 16, by families whose savings from work outside the state earn bank interest, and by farmers when a land sale or a loan application requires one. Many who file owe no tax at all; the return serves as proof of income and brings back any TDS.

What to watch, by type of taxpayer
Farmers & Landowners. Not everything earned on a farm is agricultural income. Growing and selling crops, and rent or lease money from farm land, are exempt. Dairy, poultry, fishery and trading in produce bought from others are businesses and are taxable in the normal way, though the presumptive scheme usually applies. Crop sale proceeds and Kisan Credit Card transactions passing through the bank are best supported by mandi slips and land records.
Government & Bank Staff. Government and bank staff are placed in the new regime by default, and the employer deducts tax on that basis unless the employee opts out in writing. Whether the old regime still pays depends on a few items — home-loan interest, GPF and insurance, and HRA for those living in rented quarters — set against the lower rates of the new one. Interest on savings accounts and fixed deposits, which Form 16 leaves out, is taxable under both.
Workers Employed in Other States. Many people from here work in another Indian state rather than abroad. They remain residents, with one PAN and one return wherever the employer is. Their returns usually involve Form 16 from an employer far away, rent paid for a room in the work city, and provident fund — which is taxable, with TDS, if withdrawn before five years of continuous service. Money they send to parents or a spouse at home is not the recipient’s income.
What a careless return can cost
- A buyer of land worth ₹50 lakh or more deducts 1% TDS unless it is rural agricultural land — and that TDS is recovered only by filing.
- Bank interest left out of the return is the most common reason salaried taxpayers receive a mismatch intimation.
- PF withdrawn early is taxed in the year of withdrawal, and many workers learn this only from a tax notice.
- Refunds are issued only after the return is filed, e-verified and processed — and only to a pre-validated bank account.
- The department already sees interest, dividends, share trades and high-value purchases in the AIS; an unexplained gap produces a notice.
From documents to a filed return: our process
- Scoping. We list every income head for the year — salary, business, capital gains, rent, foreign assets — and the schedules each one needs.
- Statements and workings. Capital-gains statements, broker reports, rent and loan certificates are converted into return schedules and matched with the AIS.
- Review. You receive a computation with the regime comparison, advance-tax position and any disclosure points to confirm.
- Filing and after-care. The return is filed and e-verified; intimations, defective-return notices or refund adjustments are handled until closed.

ITR filing in Bandra: common questions
Yes. A return can be filed voluntarily showing agricultural income as exempt income; banks generally accept it with supporting land records. If you have no other income, no tax arises, and the return simply documents what you earn.
No. Agricultural income comes from cultivating land. Dairy, poultry, fish farming and bee-keeping are business activities and their profit is taxable, though small operators can generally use the presumptive scheme and avoid detailed books.
It depends on your deductions. With a home loan, substantial GPF or insurance payments and HRA, the old regime can still give lower tax; with few deductions the new regime, with its ₹75,000 standard deduction and lower rates, usually comes out ahead. We compute both before filing.
If you had less than five years of continuous service, counting previous employers where the balance was transferred, the withdrawal is taxable and TDS applies above ₹50,000. After five years it is exempt. Transferring the balance to the new employer avoids the issue.
A belated return can be filed until 31 December following the financial year, with a late fee of up to ₹5,000 (₹1,000 if income is up to ₹5 lakh) and interest on unpaid tax. After that an updated return is possible for up to 48 months, at an additional tax cost.
Most refunds are credited within a few weeks of e-verification, once the return is processed. Delays usually come from an unvalidated bank account, a mismatch with the tax statement or an old outstanding demand that is being adjusted — all of which we check for.
