What filing an income tax return involves in Bihar Sharif
Every return starts from the Annual Information Statement, where the department lists what it has been told about you: salary and TDS, bank interest, contract and professional receipts, property and share transactions. The work is to match that with your own records, pick the right form — ITR-1 and ITR-2 for individuals without business income, ITR-3 and ITR-4 with it — and compute tax under both regimes before choosing one.
Returns for a financial year are due by 31 July for salaried and other non-business taxpayers, 31 August for business and professional returns without audit, and 31 October where a tax audit applies. From 1 April 2026 the Income-tax Act, 2025 applies and the year is called the “tax year”. Bihar levies professional tax on salaries; the amount your employer deducts is allowed as a deduction under the old regime. For house rent allowance under the old regime, Bihar Sharif falls in the 40%-of-salary category; the 50% limit applies only to eight notified metro cities.

Income tax in Bihar Sharif: who files and why
Returns from Bihar Sharif and its district are filed by government employees — including those at the ordnance factory and railway workshop in the district — by market traders and cold-storage owners, and by families earning from property: shops let in the town, lodges and guest houses at Rajgir, and land sold as the tourist area expands. Whether a guest house is rented out or run as a business changes the head of income and the deductions.

Income tax by type of taxpayer
Government & Bank Staff. Government and bank staff are placed in the new regime by default, and the employer deducts tax on that basis unless the employee opts out in writing. Whether the old regime still pays depends on a few items — home-loan interest, GPF and insurance, and HRA for those living in rented quarters — set against the lower rates of the new one. Interest on savings accounts and fixed deposits, which Form 16 leaves out, is taxable under both.
Shop Owners & Traders. Under the presumptive scheme the whole year’s advance tax falls due in a single instalment by 15 March — a date many shopkeepers miss, and pay interest for. The return is also the document a bank reads when the shop asks for a loan or a higher cash-credit limit, so the income declared has to support the borrowing sought. Banks report cash deposits of ₹10 lakh or more in a year in a savings account, and ₹50 lakh in a current account, to the department.
Landlords. Owners of more than two houses are taxed on a notional rent for the additional ones even if they lie vacant. Co-owners are taxed separately on their shares when the shares are definite. Rent that cannot be recovered and later arrears have their own rules, and a tenant who is an individual paying more than ₹50,000 a month must deduct tax — as must any business tenant above the annual limit — so the landlord’s PAN should be given.
Why filing the return properly matters
- Bank interest left out of the return is the most common reason salaried taxpayers receive a mismatch intimation.
- A shop that declares the bare minimum every year finds its own returns are the reason the bank refuses a larger loan.
- A third house lying vacant is still taxed on the rent it could reasonably fetch.
- A return filed after the due date carries a late fee and interest, and some losses can no longer be carried forward.
- Banks and visa offices usually ask for the returns of the last two or three years, filed on time.
How we prepare your return
- Documents in. You send Form 16 or income details, bank statements and investment proofs — photos over WhatsApp are fine.
- Cross-check. We download your AIS and tax statement and match every entry with your papers, so nothing is missed or counted twice.
- Computation for approval. You see the tax under both regimes, the refund or tax payable, and confirm before filing.
- Filing and e-verification. The return is filed, e-verified with Aadhaar OTP and the acknowledgement sent to you; we watch the refund status afterwards.

ITR filing in Bihar Sharif: common questions
Rent for letting the bare building is income from house property, with the 30% standard deduction. If you let it furnished with equipment as a running concern, or operate the hotel yourself, the income is business income and actual expenses are claimed instead.
It depends on your deductions. With a home loan, substantial GPF or insurance payments and HRA, the old regime can still give lower tax; with few deductions the new regime, with its ₹75,000 standard deduction and lower rates, usually comes out ahead. We compute both before filing.
Yes, if the tax for the year comes to ₹10,000 or more. Under the presumptive scheme it is paid in one instalment by 15 March. Paying later, or only along with the return, adds interest for each month of delay.
Each of you is taxed on your own share of the rent, after the 30% deduction, provided the shares are definite and ascertainable — which a sale deed normally shows. The rent is not taxed as an association of persons in that case.
The new regime has lower rates and makes income up to ₹12 lakh tax-free after rebate, but drops most deductions. The old regime helps when HRA, home-loan interest and investments are large. We compute both every year and show you the difference.
Filing is mandatory above the basic exemption limit and in certain cases regardless of income — large bank deposits, foreign travel spend or high electricity bills, for example. Even when optional, a return is often worth filing to claim a TDS refund or to build income proof for loans.
