Gaya, the second-largest city of Bihar, is a centre of pilgrimage — for pind daan at the Vishnupad temple and for the Mahabodhi Temple at Bodh Gaya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site — with an international airport, a university and a weaving cluster at Manpur. Our income tax return service for residents of Gaya covers the choice of form, a comparison of the old and new regimes and follow-up until the return is processed.

For taxpayers in Gaya our team works remotely — document check, AIS reconciliation, regime comparison, filing and e-verification, with one person answering your questions throughout.

Serving businesses in Gaya online. Our team works from Noida, Uttar Pradesh — we do not run a branch in Gaya. Documents are shared over WhatsApp or email and every filing is made on the official government portal.

What filing an income tax return involves in Gaya

An income tax return from Gaya is filed online and verified with an Aadhaar OTP, but what goes into it varies widely. A salaried employee needs Form 16 and the regime comparison; a trader chooses between the presumptive scheme and books; a professional reconciles TDS; a family that sold land needs a capital-gains working. In every case income up to ₹12 lakh carries no tax under the new regime after rebate, apart from income taxed at special rates.

Returns for a financial year are due by 31 July for salaried and other non-business taxpayers, 31 August for business and professional returns without audit, and 31 October where a tax audit applies. From 1 April 2026 the Income-tax Act, 2025 applies and the year is called the “tax year”. Bihar levies professional tax on salaries; the amount your employer deducts is allowed as a deduction under the old regime. For house rent allowance under the old regime, Gaya falls in the 40%-of-salary category; the 50% limit applies only to eight notified metro cities.

Earning a living in Gaya — and what your return should show

Returns from Gaya come from the city’s traders and tilkut and sweet makers, from employees of the university, the medical college, the railway and district offices, and from families who earn from pilgrims — priests, lodge owners and those who let rooms and shops near the temples. Income that arrives in cash during a short season is the typical difficulty: it has to be recorded and declared in a way that matches what the bank account later shows.

City traders and sweet makers

Presumptive income, with seasonal cash sales reconciled to deposits.

University, railway and government staff

Form 16, arrears and refund claims.

Owners of lodges, shops and rooms near the temples

Rent or lodging income classified correctly as house property or business.

Points for each kind of taxpayer

Shop Owners & Traders. A trader’s return is read alongside two other records — the GST returns and the bank account — and all three should describe the same business. ITR-4 also asks for closing stock, debtors, creditors and cash in hand, which should be realistic. Two cash rules matter at the counter: no receipt of ₹2 lakh or more in cash from one person for one transaction, and, where books are kept, no deduction for a cash payment above ₹10,000 in a day.

Government & Bank Staff. Government and bank staff are placed in the new regime by default, and the employer deducts tax on that basis unless the employee opts out in writing. Whether the old regime still pays depends on a few items — home-loan interest, GPF and insurance, and HRA for those living in rented quarters — set against the lower rates of the new one. Interest on savings accounts and fixed deposits, which Form 16 leaves out, is taxable under both.

Landlords. Rent from house property is taxed after a flat 30% deduction and municipal taxes, with interest on a loan for that property also deductible. Tenants paying more than ₹50,000 a month must deduct TDS, and commercial tenants deduct it above the annual limit — so the rent appears in your tax statement whether or not you report it.

What a careless return can cost

  • Accepting ₹2 lakh or more in cash for a single sale draws a penalty equal to the amount received.
  • Bank interest left out of the return is the most common reason salaried taxpayers receive a mismatch intimation.
  • Rent on which the tenant has deducted TDS is already in the department’s records under your PAN.
  • Banks and visa offices usually ask for the returns of the last two or three years, filed on time.
  • A return filed after the due date carries a late fee and interest, and some losses can no longer be carried forward.

How the filing works, step by step

  1. Documents in. You send Form 16 or income details, bank statements and investment proofs — photos over WhatsApp are fine.
  2. Cross-check. We download your AIS and tax statement and match every entry with your papers, so nothing is missed or counted twice.
  3. Computation for approval. You see the tax under both regimes, the refund or tax payable, and confirm before filing.
  4. Filing and e-verification. The return is filed, e-verified with Aadhaar OTP and the acknowledgement sent to you; we watch the refund status afterwards.

If you are looking for an income tax consultant near Gaya, check how they work before how near they are: do they download your AIS, do they compare both regimes, and do they give you the computation along with the acknowledgement?

Tax VKV Group serves Gaya online from Patna — there is no branch here. Every return we file comes with the computation sheet, the acknowledgement and a note of anything to keep in mind for next year.

ITR filing in Gaya: common questions

Regular receipts from performing rituals as an occupation are professional or business income and are taxable like any other earnings, after expenses. The presumptive scheme can be used to keep the computation simple. Occasional personal gifts are a separate matter.

No. Receiving ₹2 lakh or more in cash from one person in a day, for one transaction, or for one event is prohibited, and the penalty equals the amount received. Larger payments should come by bank transfer, cheque or UPI.

It depends on your deductions. With a home loan, substantial GPF or insurance payments and HRA, the old regime can still give lower tax; with few deductions the new regime, with its ₹75,000 standard deduction and lower rates, usually comes out ahead. We compute both before filing.

Annual rent, less municipal taxes paid, less a standard 30% deduction, less interest on a loan taken for that property, is added to your income and taxed at your slab rate. No other expenses are allowed. A property lying vacant the whole year is treated differently.

An intimation after processing is routine — it either confirms your figures or shows an adjustment. A defective-return notice or a query on mismatch needs a reply within the time given. Send us the notice and we will explain it and respond.

The fee is fixed and quoted in writing before we start, based on the type of income — a salary-only return costs less than one with capital gains or business income. The first consultation is free.
