Nagpur, at the geographical centre of India, is a logistics and trading hub for central India, known for its oranges, the MIHAN cargo and special economic zone project, industrial estates at Butibori and Hingna, and the wholesale market of Itwari. Returns filed from here range from a single Form 16 to audited business accounts, and the Annual Information Statement now shows the department almost everything before you declare it.

For taxpayers in Nagpur our team works remotely — document check, AIS reconciliation, regime comparison, filing and e-verification, with one person answering your questions throughout.

Serving businesses in Nagpur online. Our team works from Noida, Uttar Pradesh — we do not run a branch in Nagpur. Documents are shared over WhatsApp or email and every filing is made on the official government portal.

Income tax return filing in Nagpur: what is involved

For taxpayers in Nagpur the return is usually a multi-schedule document: salary from one or more employers, house property with a loan, capital gains split by asset and holding period, other income, and — for residents with overseas shares or accounts — the foreign-assets schedule. Businesses and professionals add a balance sheet or presumptive figures. The new regime is the default; staying in the old one needs a deliberate choice each year.

Key dates: 31 July for individuals without business income, 31 August for business and professional returns not requiring audit, 31 October for audited cases, and 31 December for a belated return. Income earned from 1 April 2026 falls under the new Income-tax Act, 2025, which calls the year the “tax year”. Maharashtra levies professional tax on salaries; the amount your employer deducts is allowed as a deduction under the old regime. For house rent allowance under the old regime, Nagpur falls in the 40%-of-salary category; the 50% limit applies only to eight notified metro cities.

Who files income tax returns in Nagpur

Traders of Itwari and Gandhibagh, transport-fleet owners, orange growers and orchard contractors, and employees of the many government and public-sector offices located in Maharashtra’s second capital make up Nagpur’s taxpayers. Fleet owners with more than ten vehicles cannot use the per-vehicle presumptive scheme and need books. Maharashtra levies professional tax; the HRA limit in Nagpur is 40%.

Wholesale traders

Presumptive or audited books by turnover and margin.

Transport-fleet owners

Per-vehicle presumptive income up to ten vehicles; books beyond that.

Government and PSU employees

Form 16 with professional tax.

Income tax by type of taxpayer

Shop Owners & Traders. A trader’s return is read alongside two other records — the GST returns and the bank account — and all three should describe the same business. ITR-4 also asks for closing stock, debtors, creditors and cash in hand, which should be realistic. Two cash rules matter at the counter: no receipt of ₹2 lakh or more in cash from one person for one transaction, and, where books are kept, no deduction for a cash payment above ₹10,000 in a day.

Government & Bank Staff. For government employees the figures that need checking are rarely the basic pay. They are the employer’s NPS contribution, which is deductible under both regimes up to 14% of salary; allowances that are exempt only within limits; and retirement benefits — gratuity and leave encashment are fully exempt for government staff, while commuted pension and GPF follow their own rules. Under the new regime the standard deduction is ₹75,000.

Firms & Companies. For an audited business the return is the last step of a longer sequence: books closed, TDS returns filed, the audit report uploaded by 30 September and the return by 31 October. Items that auditors must report — loans taken or repaid in cash, payments to relatives, delayed deposits of employees’ PF, and dues to micro and small suppliers unpaid beyond the statutory period — become disallowances in the computation.

What a careless return can cost

  • Accepting ₹2 lakh or more in cash for a single sale draws a penalty equal to the amount received.
  • A government employee who misses the employer-NPS deduction pays tax on money that never reached his hands.
  • Amounts owed to micro and small enterprises and not paid within the statutory time are disallowed until actually paid.
  • The department already sees interest, dividends, share trades and high-value purchases in the AIS; an unexplained gap produces a notice.
  • Refunds are issued only after the return is filed, e-verified and processed — and only to a pre-validated bank account.

From documents to a filed return: our process

  1. Documents in. You send Form 16 or income details, bank statements and investment proofs — photos over WhatsApp are fine.
  2. Cross-check. We download your AIS and tax statement and match every entry with your papers, so nothing is missed or counted twice.
  3. Computation for approval. You see the tax under both regimes, the refund or tax payable, and confirm before filing.
  4. Filing and e-verification. The return is filed, e-verified with Aadhaar OTP and the acknowledgement sent to you; we watch the refund status afterwards.

ITR filing in Nagpur: common questions

No. The per-vehicle presumptive scheme is available only to a person who owns not more than ten goods vehicles at any time in the year. With fifteen you must keep books of account and, if turnover exceeds the audit limit, have them audited.

No. Receiving ₹2 lakh or more in cash from one person in a day, for one transaction, or for one event is prohibited, and the penalty equals the amount received. Larger payments should come by bank transfer, cheque or UPI.

For central and state government employees, gratuity and leave encashment received at retirement are fully exempt. For others the exemption is subject to limits — ₹25 lakh for leave encashment. Leave encashed while still in service is taxable for everyone.

An amount payable to a micro or small enterprise is allowed as a deduction only in the year it is actually paid, if it was not paid within the time allowed under the MSME law — 15 days, or up to 45 days where agreed in writing. Year-end creditors of this kind therefore increase taxable profit.

Yes. A revised return can be filed if you find an omission or error, within the time allowed after the end of the financial year. From the returns for FY 2025-26, revisions made after 31 December carry an additional fee.

For a financial year, 31 July for salaried and other non-business individuals, 31 August for business or professional returns that do not need audit, and 31 October for audit cases. A belated return can be filed up to 31 December with a late fee.
