Income Tax Filing in Bengaluru
Online Income Tax Return (ITR) Filing assistance for businesses and individuals in Bengaluru.
Income tax return filing in Bengaluru is mostly reconciliation: salary, interest, dividends, securities trades, rent and foreign income all appear in the Annual Information Statement, and the return has to explain each of them. Bengaluru is India’s technology capital, with software and research campuses at Electronic City, Whitefield and along the Outer Ring Road, the country’s most active start-up scene, and an older base of aerospace, machine-tool and garment manufacturing around Peenya.
Tax VKV Group offers income tax return filing online to taxpayers in Bengaluru: you share your documents, we choose the correct form, compare both tax regimes, show you the computation and file only after you approve it.
Serving businesses in Bengaluru online. Our team works from Noida, Uttar Pradesh — we do not run a branch in Bengaluru. Documents are shared over WhatsApp or email and every filing is made on the official government portal.
Income tax return filing in Bengaluru: what is involved
Returns from Bengaluru are increasingly pre-filled, and that is the risk: salary, interest, dividends, securities trades and even foreign remittances arrive in the Annual Information Statement, and a return that simply accepts the pre-fill inherits its errors. Proper filing means checking each entry, adding what the statement misses — rent, foreign assets, off-market sales — then choosing the form and the regime with the numbers in front of you.
Key dates: 31 July for individuals without business income, 31 August for business and professional returns not requiring audit, 31 October for audited cases, and 31 December for a belated return. Income earned from 1 April 2026 falls under the new Income-tax Act, 2025, which calls the year the “tax year”. Karnataka levies professional tax on salaries; the amount your employer deducts is allowed as a deduction under the old regime. For house rent allowance under the old regime, Bengaluru is one of the eight cities where up to 50% of basic salary can be exempt.

Income tax in Bengaluru: who files and why
A typical Bengaluru return involves salary with stock: RSUs of a US-listed parent that vest quarterly, an employee share-purchase plan, or options in an Indian start-up. Each creates salary income at vesting or exercise, capital gains at sale and, for foreign shares, disclosure in the foreign-assets schedule. Rent is high and widely claimed; from 2026-27 Bengaluru is among the cities where the HRA limit is 50% of salary. Karnataka also levies professional tax.
Employees with RSUs and ESPPs
Vest-date values, sale proceeds in foreign currency and tax withheld abroad.
Start-up employees with options
Tax on exercise, with deferral for eligible start-ups.
Founders and early investors
Unlisted-share gains and secondary sales.
Points for each kind of taxpayer
Salaried Professionals. Private-sector returns turn on details: two Form 16s after a job change (with the standard deduction and basic exemption counted twice by mistake), HRA where rent is paid, employer NPS, and stock options taxed first as salary and later as capital gains. Each needs to be traced through the Annual Information Statement.
Founders & Startups. Founders usually have three tax positions at once: director’s remuneration from the company, the company’s own return in ITR-6, and shares or ESOPs that create perquisite and capital-gains questions. Eligible start-up employees can defer tax on ESOPs. Unlisted shares and foreign assets must be disclosed in detail in the personal return.
Investors & Property Sellers. Gains on listed shares and equity funds held over a year are taxed at 12.5% above ₹1.25 lakh; short-term gains at 20%. Property sold after two years is long-term: 12.5% without indexation, with an option of 20% with indexation for property bought before 23 July 2024. Reinvestment exemptions can remove the tax, but only with the right timing.
Why filing the return properly matters
- After a job change, both employers often give the basic exemption — leaving tax due at filing, with interest.
- Directors and holders of unlisted shares cannot use the simple ITR-1 — filing it makes the return defective.
- The rebate that makes income up to ₹12 lakh tax-free does not apply to capital gains taxed at special rates.
- Refunds are issued only after the return is filed, e-verified and processed — and only to a pre-validated bank account.
- The department already sees interest, dividends, share trades and high-value purchases in the AIS; an unexplained gap produces a notice.
How we prepare your return
- Scoping. We list every income head for the year — salary, business, capital gains, rent, foreign assets — and the schedules each one needs.
- Statements and workings. Capital-gains statements, broker reports, rent and loan certificates are converted into return schedules and matched with the AIS.
- Review. You receive a computation with the regime comparison, advance-tax position and any disclosure points to confirm.
- Filing and after-care. The return is filed and e-verified; intimations, defective-return notices or refund adjustments are handled until closed.

Questions about income tax filing in Bengaluru
Yes. The full value of shares vested is salary income, already in Form 16. The shares sold to cover tax are a sale with a small capital gain or loss, and the shares you retain are foreign assets to be disclosed if the company is listed abroad.
Income from both employers is combined and tax is recomputed, because each employer usually gives the full exemption and standard deduction. Any shortfall is paid as self-assessment tax before filing. Give us both Form 16s — or salary slips if one is missing.
Directors and anyone holding unlisted shares must use ITR-2, or ITR-3 if they also have business or professional income — never ITR-1 or ITR-4. The return asks for your DIN and the details of each company and shareholding.
If held for more than two years, the gain is long-term and taxed at 12.5% — or, for property bought before 23 July 2024, the lower of that and 20% with indexation. Buying another house or specified bonds within the time limits can exempt the gain. Send us both deeds and we will compute it.
A belated return can be filed until 31 December following the financial year, with a late fee of up to ₹5,000 (₹1,000 if income is up to ₹5 lakh) and interest on unpaid tax. After that an updated return is possible for up to 48 months, at an additional tax cost.
Most refunds are credited within a few weeks of e-verification, once the return is processed. Delays usually come from an unvalidated bank account, a mismatch with the tax statement or an old outstanding demand that is being adjusted — all of which we check for.
